Metro Blooms provides resources to help people care for land and water. This often includes support to install rain gardens that filter and clean water or native plantings that provide habitat for pollinators.
Partnership and relationships are central to how we work. We partner with community groups, nonprofits, local government, business owners and individuals, from youth to elders and homeowners to renters. In our work, we center communities impacted by environmental injustices.
Below are some of our programs and projects. We’ve grouped them under various headings to make it easier to browse, but we acknowledge that some projects can easily fit in different categories. We hope you learn a little more about what we do!
We work with residents of rental communities to co-design outdoor spaces that center resident priorities, are climate resilient, and protect the environment. Residents are part of decision-making and are paid to support installation and long-term care.
We love sharing what we know, and learning alongside our partners. We recognize that everyone has lived experience and knowledge to share. Through our Blue Thumb education programming, we offer accessible resources to plant for clean water.
Native plants and trees support pollinators and other wildlife, and improve soil and water quality. We provide opportunities to take on projects, individually and with others.
Plant-based practices like rain gardens help prevent runoff that pollutes our lakes and rivers. We partner with neighborhoods, cities, small business districts, and rental communities to learn about, install, and care for these practices.
