Tree Outreach and Education

Metro Blooms’ tree education and outreach work connects people to trees through hands-on learning, skill-building, and cultural knowledge. We provide tree planting and maintenance education to youth crews at Helping Hand Companies, community partners, and participants in Sustainable Landcare Training, building practical skills that support long-term tree health and stewardship in our communities.

Our outreach also creates space to learn from cultural relationships with trees. Through Black Ash basket weaving workshops with Indigenous artist Liandra Skenandore and community partners, participants explore traditional knowledge, creativity, and the ecological role of trees—while learning about black ash, the threats it faces from emerald ash borer, and our shared responsibility to care for urban forests. Together, these efforts strengthen tree stewardship, deepen community connection, and honor the many ways people relate to trees.
