Rapson Hall Raingarden

The Rapson Hall raingarden is designed to connect two existing overflow catch basins in a grassy bio-infiltration area in the courtyard outside of Rapson Hall at the University of Minnesota. The existing site was made up entirely of turf grass and offered very little infiltration of stormwater runoff. This design employs deep-rooted native plants to drastically increase the rate of infiltration and provide urban habitat. There were also risers installed on the catch basins to create an area for water to pool before slowly infiltrating into the ground. This project was completed in partnership with communications students and Professor Mark Pedelty.
